New Announcements:
  •  Back to School Night on Wednesday, Sept. 2:
    Grades 1-3: 6:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
    K, Grades 4-5: 7:45 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

  • Visitor Sign In: we ask that all parent visitors sign in at the office upon entering campus during the school day. For the safety of our students, all visitors not displaying a guest badge/sticker will be asked to proceed to the office to sign in.

  • Drop Off and Pick Up:  with the addition of our new Traffix buses, please observe the following procedures for morning drop off and after school pick ups:

    • Parents may use the front parking lot to drop off and pick up only when the yellow buses are not present.
    • When the yellow school buses are lined up in the front parking lot, parent cars will not be allowed to enter the lot. Please observe the orange cones displayed at the parking lot entrance signifying the lot is closed to cars. Passing a school bus while it is unloading/loading can result in a citation. In the morning, the buses typically arrive from 8:25 am to 8:35 am. After school, the buses will be in the lot for approximately 10 minutes after dismissal time.
    • During the time the parking lot is closed to cars, parents may drop off and pick up on Pine Valley Rd, the Pebble loop (near the rear of the school) or other appropriate side streets. Students and parents must use monitored crosswalks.
    • No drop-off's or pick-up's in the staff parking lot. This lot is not supervised.

I'd like to especially thank Safety Patrol parent volunteers, Lynn and Matt Macedo, for their help in the parking lot. Their service is an incredible help! Thank you all for your help in keeping our parking lot a safe place for our families and staff!

  • Fun Family Event:  Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a genetic disorder the effects thousands of children. Come show your support for finding a cure for SMA at the upcoming SMA Walk-in-Roll at Emerald Glen Park in Dublin, on Sept. 26, from 9-11:30.  The event is perfect for children and includes snacks, clowns, live music and more.  It is a great way for your child to show compassion for someone struggling with physical challenges.  Go to www.smanorcal.org to register..

August 21, 2009

New Announcements:
  •  Tuesday is almost here! The teachers and staff are gearing up for our children to return from summer break. Our staff have been working hard for weeks preparing their classrooms, preparing instructional materials, and planning for a successful year of learning and growth. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the staff, the parent community, and have even met a handful of students. I look forward to meeting everyone starting on Tuesday.

  •  Impact of 22 to 1: A Lyris was sent out earlier informing our community about the decision to allow for scheduling up to 22 students in our Kindergarten through Grade 3 classrooms. As a result, we were able to minimize the number of resident students who had to be diverted. We are thankful to keep as many of our resident students as possible. However, the change did result in some shifting of our teachers. In one case, one of our teachers was reassigned to another school. We are sad to say "goodbye" to Ms. Joy Dalton, thank her for her significant contribution to Walt Disney, and wish her the best in her endeavors at Hidden Hills Elementary.

  •  "Meet and Eat":  the WDPTA is sponsoring a "meet and eat picnic social on the first day of school starting immediately after dismissal. Bring your own lunch items (and picnic blanket if you'd like). Popsicles will be provided. This will be a wonderful time to meet/greet other families, staff, and our new principal Mr. Nguyen.

  •  Bell Schedule "Shuffle": Thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding regarding our new bell schedule. All elementary school sites underwent changes in their bell schedule to equalize instructional minutes. In our case, some changes were driven by the new Traffix program that will offer traffic relief.

We do have one final revision to the kindergarten bell schedule:

    8:20 am - 11:40 am (early readers)
    9:25 am - 1:00 pm (late readers)
