New Announcements:

·       Teacher Work Day and Parent/Teacher Conferences :  Friday, October 2, is  a no student day. Enjoy the long weekend! Parent teacher conferences for Grades 1-5 will occur next week (Oct. 5-9) . Please note that we will be on a minimum day schedule and arrange for pickups accordingly.

·       Congratulations Walt Disney Elementary:  The state’s Academic Performance Index (API) was a bit delayed this fall compared to past years, but they were released recently. This is the score that is a result of the STAR (State Testing and Reporting) tests that our second through fifth graders took last spring. Walt Disney’s growth API came in at 917, a 9 point increase from our base API from last spring. Congratulations to everyone! I know this is a result of an incredible amount of work on the part of our staff, students, and parents.

·       PC Desktops/Laptops Needed: we are looking for a limited number of PC desktop or laptops. Even though our school is predominantly on the Macintosh platform (we will have a community meeting soon to address our need to upgrade our Mac’s) , our library and one classroom has a need for a limited number of PC’s. If you or your company are looking to donate PC desktops and/or laptops, please contact me via email or by calling the school office at 479-3900. I am looking for PC’s that are able to run Windows XP proficiently.  We would be happy to provide you with a tax ID number for your tax purposes (please consult your tax advisor to see if your donation is tax-deductible).

Our school district does offer school lunch service on a free and/or reduced fee basis for families who may qualify. I invite families to consider this option as a nutritious lunch makes a big difference in our children’s day. Visit the linked website to download the application. All free & reduced lunch identification information is kept in strict confidence.

If you are interested in providing feedback on how we can fund this initiative to get updated technology into our classrooms, DESEF will schedule a “town meeting” soon to discuss how we can work together to get this done for our students.
